He was baptised at Brinsley on 1 June 1884, perhaps in readiness for the transatlantic crossing.

His grandfather Roy Kirk Halvor EDGOOSE (1887-1980) said that he emigrated to the USA with his father in about 1884.

He was at school in Aberdeen in 1887. A newspaper report under the heading SCHOOL PROMOTIONS showed that he moved up from C class to B class after the examinations closing the school year.

He is said to have visited Harriet COCKER at Hathersage, Derbyshire, while she was still living there. It seems likely from a letter written to Harriet by J. S. M. BAYLES on 5 June 1889 that he was staying with her at that time.

The records of Ellis Island show that the eleven year old Wm. T. EDGOOSE arrived in the USA in 1892 (www.ellisislandrecords.org). He travelled on The City of Paris from Liverpool, reaching New York on 2 January. He was accompanied by David HINCHCLIFF, a 21 year old student, son of Alice EDGOOSE.
They each had just one piece of luggage.

He had returned to Chicago, USA, when Sophie SCHJOLDAGER of 367 W Huron St., Chicago, wrote to HARRIET on 3 June 1893.

When James WESTMORELAND wrote to his aunt Harriet RIGGALL (nee EDGOOSE) from Aberdeen, South Dakota, on 13 December 1897 Alfred HINCHCLIFF and Willie EDGOOSE were living a short distance from Aberdeen.

He remained a bachelor and worked both as a carrier with his own horse and wagon and as a house-painter.

From the 1910 US Federal Census of Cottage Grove Ave new, Chicago Ward 2, Cook County, Illinois:
William EGGOOSE (sic), lodger, aged 25, single, born in England of English parents, immigrated 1899, naturalised, working for a glass company.

According to his niece Harriet EDGOOSE he had a nervous breakdown towards the end of his life and spent some time in the State Hospital. His brother Joel EDGOOSE used to manage his affairs.

At the time of his World War 1 Draft Registration on 12 September 1918 W. T. EDGOOSE was a 39 year old patient in the Chicago State Hospital. His next of kin was said to be W. R. EGGROSE of 1638 North Fairfield Avenue, Chicago. He was short, of medium build, with blue eyes and brown hair.

He died in the Chicago State Hospital on 27 May 1939 at the age of 59. According to his death certicate he had been a patient at the Chicago State Hospital for over 27 years.

He was buried in Mount Olive Cemetery, Chicago, on 29 May (Lot 94 Section C)

In about 1925 he deserted his wife Lilian and ran off with their maid and a considerable sum of money, with the result that she was forced to move from the matrimonial home into a tiny cottage. The scandal he created was reported in the local newspaper. Later, she granted her husband's request to return and supported him financially using her sewing skills. She was an expert tailoress and took orders from all over the country.
