Herbert was at one time organist of Grimsby Parish Church.
He wrote from Wood Lane, Great Coates, Grimsby, Lincolnshire, on 19 September 1968:
"Dear Mr. Edgoose,
I was very pleased to receive your letter last August. It arrived the day before I went to Enfield on holiday for a few weeks hence the long time in answering it. (I left in another suit)
Of course my mother and father are dead. Mother died about July 1950 or 51. Father died December 1952. They both lived at Broadstairs, Kent, and were cremated.
I have my cousin's address somewhere and will try and find it and let you have it. He works in the Post Office at Victoria, London. I believe he is a sorter, but I have not seen him since I was at Broadstairs in the early 50's.
I also have a brother at Southampton but seldom hear from him.
Perhaps as you know I am a music teacher and am pretty successful. Of course it is not a job that no (sic) one makes a lot of money at, but is very satisfying.
I have a photo of the Edgoose family and will send it on Monday - the Post office comes then.
I believe my Aunt Bertha in Wisbech is still alive but I'll try and let you know later.
Yours Sincerely
HSP Burton
P.S. My friends know me by my third name 'Pat' "
A second letter was dated 3 October 1968:
"Dear Mr. Edgoose
I am enclosing a photo. of the Edgoose family as promised. Please return it since I value it quite a lot. The people photographed are as follows. (left to right)
Back row - Mr. Frank Edgoose, Mr. G. Reid, myself when about 16.
middle row - Miss Pogson, (a friend of my Grandmother's) Mrs Margaret Edgoose, (my Grandmother) Mr. Stanton Edgoose, (my Grandfather) Mrs. Bertha Curtis of Wisbech (my aunt who is still alive) my mother (Kate Burton) and Athol Reid in front. It is a very good photo of their house. I used to sleep in the room with the window open. The photograph was taken at West Walton, Wisbech.
Yours Sincerely,
HSP Burton
Hope you escaped the floods. we have had a lot of rain but no floods.
I believe the Edgoose family came from Holland with William of Orange."
The death of Herbert Stanton P. BURTON was registered in 1973.
