      NOTES & QUERIES:
      A letter from Ethel O'CONNOR dated 20 October 1969:
      "I Weldon Street, Birwood
      My dear Cousin,
I just feel I cannot address you otherwise. I am an old lady 75 on the second Nov. First let me apologise for the long delay in answering your letter, but I have been very ill since last May. I am up & sitting about now, & only just able to look things up & answer many letters. I was to have had a very big operation Duodenal Ulcer Hiatus Hernia & split diaphragm, but the specialist has now said the operation is too big for my age so must just live on a very strict diet. I was surprised & pleased to hear from you & so sorry for the delay, but there was no one I could get to look things up for me. I was wondering what generation you belong to I am Elizabeth's Edgoose's only grand daughter, & she of course was sister to uncle John of Melbourne, & several others & sister of the one from whom I have the letter. I cannot find any photos at present, but if at any time I come across any will be delighted to send them on. I am also enclosing a plan with Uncle Jesse name on it. It is in really wonderful condition & with the letter would love you to keep. I only have five brothers 4 living & they would like you to have them. No doubt it was to you Ethellyn Edgoose, Bert's widow sent the family history I wrote & would like you to add another name Darryl Grahame Griffin born 2nd Aug. 1967 Canberra, son of Terry Patrick & Jacquelyn, daughter & son-in-law of John James Wesley my second youngest brother. I would love to hear from you any time you have a few moments & any news & as Xmas is drawing close would love to wish you & yours a very Happy Xmas & New Year.
      With kindest regards & love
      from Ethel O'Connor"

      A letter from Ethel O'Connor dated 17 July 1970:
      "I Weldon Street, Burwood
      My dear Cousin Michael,
Your very welcome letter arrived last week. I was so pleased to hear again from you. I have been on the loafing list again, was unfortunate & got the Hong Kong Flu, & it has been with me well over a month. I have written to Melbourne hoping Percie or Lucie may remember the name of the sailing ship Grand Mother & Uncle John came out in The name Trilley or something like that seems to be deep down in my subconscious mind. I remember very well Grandmother saying it took nine months to come out, & also there is a murmur somewhere about her going to her friend in (Tasmania) Hobart to a friend for a awhile name Ashe . Dad, Mum, & I went over for a holiday & called & saw Mrs Ashe there 60 years ago But whether they went to Melbourne first or not I'm not sure. But one thing I am sure of they never came to N.S.W. Grandmother did after she married grandfather whom she met in Melbourne. As soon as I get about again I'll go thro' my photos & get Gordon my youngest brother, quite a good amateur photographer to take one off for you. I also have a small snap of Uncle John, Aunti & I think Bessie. I'll give you We have not had rain for a long time, everything is dry, the weather very cold & frosts every morning, & we are only six miles from Sydney. If it would only rain, a lot of the Flu & sickness would go. But the brother younger than I am is a Dr & is absolutely run off his feet, in addition to ordinary ills has dozens of cases of a very bad 'Flu'. As soon as I fix up about the photo & news from Melbourne I'll send them along. Till then kindest regards & love to you & yours
      Ethel"
