      According to a microfiche copy of Algarkirk, Lincolnshire, parish register James CROFT was born on 22 October 1838 and baptised there with his brother John CROFT on 27 March 1845.

      John CROFT (sic), aged 25, agricultural labourer, born in Lincolnshire;
      Elizabeth CROFT (sic), aged 25, born in Lincolnshire;

      By the time of the 1891 census James CRAFT was a 51 year old widower, born at Algarkirk Fen, working as a railway signalman, and living at 5 West Terrace. Boston, Lincolnshire. His 30 year old unmarried daughter Elizabeth born at Carrington, was acting as housekeeper. Also present was James CRAFT's one year old grandaughter Florence CRAFT, born at Boston. (RG12/2574/97/8).

      The Elizabeth Ann CRAFT who died in 1891 aged 30 may have been his daughter.

      The death of a James CRAFT aged 83 was registered in 1922.

      John Henry CRAFT wrote to a niece in 1959:
      "There were three brothers in father's family. William (my father), James and John, the latter died early in life. James had some family, one was an electrician and lived in Sheffield. James was employed on the Great Northern Railway for many years as a signalman."

      NOTES & QUERIES:
      The birth and death of another Ann Eliza CRAFT was registered at Bramley, Yorkshire, in 1878 and 1879. Without a birth certificate one cannot be certain of her parentage.
