      Ann EDGOOSE was baptised at West Walton, Norfolk, on 23 July 1797, daughter of John and Mary EDGOOSE of West Walton. John EDGOOSE had married Mary STANTON at West Walton on 12 May 1796.

      She married Joseph OLDFIELD of West Walton on 21 October 1818 at West Walton. Susanna OLDFIELD and John BONNEY were witnesses.

      Her daughter Mary Ann OLDFIELD was born in 1821, married Joseph BATTERHAM in 1842, and died in 1910.
      Her three sons, John, Jesse and William, emigrated to the USA.

      From the 1841 census returns of West Walton:
      *Ann OLDFIELD, aged 40, farmer, born in Norfolk;
      William OLDFIELD, aged 12, born in Norfolk;
      Mary EDGOOSE, aged 35, born in Norfolk;
      John EDGOOSE, aged 35, agricultural labourer, born in Norfolk;

      According to the West Walton Tithe Apportionment dated 30 September 1841 Joseph OLDFIELD occupied a Common Allotment belonging to John Guy KELKE Esq. consisting of 2 acres and 30 perches of pasture (No. 793 on plan). He was also the owner occupier of 5 acres 3 roods and 2 perches of pasture in Fen (No.83 on plan), of 2 acres 3 roods and 17 perches of arable land in Smeeth (No. 116 on plan), and a cottage and garden tottalling 2 roods and 34 perches (No. 750 on plan).

      She was the sole beneficiary in the will of her husband made on 12 February 1839 and proved on 25 April 1842 (q.v). Joseph OLDFIELD, a butcher, of West Walton had died on 9 January 1842. Stanton and Patience EDGOOSE of West Walton were witnesses.

      In the 1851 census returns for West Walton Ann OLDFIELD was visiting Joseph and Mary BATTERHAM (her son-in-law and daughter) at South Field, West Walton. She was described as a 62 (sic) year old annuitant: At the time of the 1851 census Joseph BATTERHAM, aged 35 and born at Walsoken in Norfolk, was the farmer of six acres of land and lived at South Field, West Walton, Wisbeach. The rest of the family were all born in West Walton:
      Mary BATTERHAM, his 30 year old wife;
      Joseph BATTERHAM, their 8 year old son, a scholar;
      Mary A. BATTERHAM, their 6 year old daughter, a scholar;
      Maria BATTERHAM, their 4 year old daughter, a scholar;
      Elizabeth BATTERHAM, their 2 year old daughter, a scholar.

      Joseph BATTERHAM, head, aged 56, groom and gardener, born at Walsoken, Norfolk;
      Mary Ann BATTERHAM, wife, aged 51, born at West Walton;
      Frances BATTERHAM, daughter, aged 18, born at West Walton;
      Anna BATTERHAM, daughter, aged 10, born at West Walton;
      Ruth BATTERHAM, aged 8, born at West Walton;
      George BATTERHAM, aged 4, born at West Walton;
      *Ann OLDFIELD, mother (sic), aged 73, widow, born at West Walton.

      Anne (sic) died on 17 June 1879 at West Walton aged 82.

      In her will made on 12 December 1862 and proved at Norwich on 8 July 1879 she left everything to her daughter Mary Ann, the wife of Joseph BATTERHAM. Her effects did not exceed 100 and there were no leaseholds:
      "This is the last Will and Testament of me Ann OLDFIELD of West Walton in the County of Norfolk Widow I devise and bequeath all the real and personal estate to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease unto my daughter Mary Ann BATTERHAM the Wife of Joseph BATTERHAM absolutely And I appoint my said daughter sole Executrix of this my last Will And I revoke all former and other Wills In witness whereof I the said Ann OLDFIELD have hereunto set my hand the Twelfth day of December one thousand eight hundred and sixty two."
