    GLADYS EDGOOSE nee WANDLESS (1906-1966)
    The gravestone of Gladys (1906-1966), wife of John Holborn Edgoose (1903-1986), who was buried in Easington Colliery Cemetery, County Durham.

    Monumental Inscription:
    "In
    Loving memory of
    a dear wife and mam
    GLADYS EDGOOSE
    died 15th May 1966
    aged 59 years
    Always in our thoughts"

    • GLADYS EDGOOSE nee WANDLESS 1906-1966

      Gladys WANDLESS was born at Easington Colliery/Shotton Colliery Area, County Durham, on 11 August 1906, daughter of William and Eleanor WANDLESS. William WANDLESS had married Eleanor STUBBS at Easington Register Office, County Durham, on 23 September 1905. Eleanor WANDLESS died in 1906 shortly after giving birth to Gladys and was buried at St. Saviour, Shotton, County Durham, on 20 November aged 21.

      She was brought up by her mother's family and although she had little contact with her father he was said to have been present at her wedding.

      *Gladice [sic] WANDLESS, neice [sic], aged 4, born at Shotton Colliery, Durham.

      She married John Holborn EDGOOSE at the Primitive Methodist Chapel, Seaside Lane, Easington Colliery, County Durham, on 25 April 1928. He was described as a 25 year old bachelor, a market gardener, living at Paradise Gardens, Easington Colliery, and son of John Holborn EDGOOSE, market gardener. Gladys was a 21 year old spinster of 26 Bourne Street, Easington Colliery, and daughter of William WANDLESS, a coal hewer. Witnesses were James H. EDGOOSE and Eleanor Margaret MASON.
