    Raymond Lynn Edgoose (1922-1943):
    As Sergeant (Air Bomber) 1452815, RAF (Volunteer Reserve) 218 Squadron (The 'Gold Coast Squadron' - Motto 'In Time') he died on air operations, presumed dead on 24 June 1943. The target on the night of 24/25 June 1943 was Wuppertal - 630 aircraft bombed the Elberfeld half of Wuppertal. Bombing was accurate but aircraft losses heavy (35 aircraft shot down). In the town 3000 houses were destroyed; 53 industrial premises and 2500 houses damaged. 1800 people were killed and 2400 injured.

    The crew of Stirling III aircraft BF501 (HA-N) of 218 Squadron was as follows:

    They took off at 23.43 from Downham Market, Norfolk. They were shot down by nightfighter (Oblt Hans AUTENREITH, 6./NJG4), crashing at 01.59 at Kaggevinne (Brabant), 2km WSW of Diest, Belgium. All the crew were buried at Kaggevine Communal Cemetery. Raymond Lynn EDGOOSE was buried in Joint Grave No. 6.

      He was born in 1922, the son of Halbert and Mary EDGOOSE.

      Halbert EDGOOSE had married Mary SHARP at Emneth, Norfolk, on 18 June 1913.

      "Presumed Killed. - Sgt. Observer Raymond Lynn EDGOOSE (20), R.A.F.V.R., youngest son of Mr. H. EDGOOSE, Long Sutton Post-master, is reported presumed killed. He had been missing from air operations two months. He joined up in October, 1941, and was previously a clerk in the office of the Holland Public Assistance Committee at Long Sutton."
