"WORKED FOR THREE GENERATIONS
Frampton couple wed 50 years
Greeings cards and telegrams lined the shelves in the sitting room, and a vase of red geraniums stood in the hearth, when Mr. and Mrs. W. WATTS, Ivy House, Middlegate Road, Frampton, celebrated their golden wedding on Wednesday. One of the telegrams was from Messrs. W. DENNIS and Sons Ltd., with whom Mr. WATTS has worked for sixty years, and the flowers were a present from Mrs. Frank DENNIS.
This is the only firm for which 72-year-old Mr. WATTS has worked, and he is still a ganger in charge of women landworkers. He told the "Standard" he began this job soon after he was twenty, and usually has about twelve women under him.
He married the former Miss Alice EDGOOSE at Kirton (their home) in 1905, and they have one son, Frank, who is head foreman in Messrs. Dennis' warehouse. Their grandson has just passed the recent scholarship examination.
Mrs. WATTS is the oldest surviving member of her family, and has three sisters and three brothers - Mrs. E. SMITHSON (Peterborough), Mrs. A. CARTWIGHT (Frampton), Mrs. H. BURTON (Frampton), and Mr. Walter EDGOOSE (Boston), Mr. Fred EDGOOSE and Mr. Frank EDGOOSE (Frampton).
Some relatives and friends visited Ivy House (where the couple have lived for 30 years) for a celebration, and another party is being held on Sunday."
