      Special to the Gazette
      Conway, Jan. 1. - Capt. James HOLBEN, aged 84, native of England and retired ship captain, died here last night at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John E. ERBACHER. Captain HOLBEN was born at Hull, England, December 11, 1846, and came with his parents to Hartford, CT, at the age of four. He resided in Michigan and Canada and for 35 years was owner and captain of vessels on the Great Lakes. He came to Arkansas 24 years ago. He is survived by three sons, Robert HOLBBEN of North Little Rock, M. L. HOLBEN of Clarksville, George HOLBEN of Hazelton, B.C.; three daughters, Mrs. Mattie MILES of East Jordan, Mich.,the Rev. Margaret MAYFIELD of Beaumont, Tex., and Mrs. ERBACHER; 17 grandchildren and two great grand children."
