She lived in the family house her father built at Dungannon, Highfield Avenue, Aldershot, Hampshire, until shortly after her mother's death in 1970. She then moved to Dunraven, 33 Highfield Avenue, Aldershot.

      "HOUSE MUST NOT BE DEMOLISHED
AN elderly woman who wants to tear down a 130-year-old cottage to extend her family's business has been told to improve the building instead --- with the aid of a £4,000 council grant.
Miss Edith EDGOOSE --- the oldest member of the prominent Aldershot family --- has slammed Rushmoor Council's proposal as "an appalling waste of money."
And she says she has been told by a surveyor that the improvements would not increase the value of the cottage in Church Lane East, Aldershot.
Miss EDGOOSE, who lives in Highfield Avenue, wanted to demolish the building and replace it with a warehouse on the site which adjoins her family's timber business.
But the council refused planning permission on the grounds that the area was residential and therefore unsuitable for commercial use.
Miss EDGOOSE said she was prepared to offer the cottage's tenant suitable alternative accommodation.
The cottage stands next to others that are unoccupied.
She says that essential repairs have been done over the years to maintain the property and believes that only the roof needs repair work.
Miss EDGOOSE, a pensioner, is a member of the Aldershot family which has served on the council and in business locally.
She says Rushmoor Council should give more help and encouragement to long-established businesses in the town.
And she believes that common sense would suggest the site is more suited to business than housing purposes.
The residential classification was made over 40 years ago.
But Miss EDGOOSE says the family premises next door are on land which as been used for business purposes for over 150 years, first as a wheelwright's business and then as a timber yard.
And she believes the volume of traffic on Church Lane East has increased by as much a ten times since the classification took effect.
She adds that Rushmoor has ignored a directive from the Prime Minister to local authorities stating that zoning regulations should not be enforced strictly when dealing with planning applications from small businesses.
Mr. David EDGOOSE, a director of the family timber business, set up at Church Lane East in 1907, says the only long-term future for the site is redevelopment.
He said that most of the £4,000 grant would ultimately come from taxpayer's pockets.
"It seems rather a waste at this stage." he said.
He said his aunt did not want the work to be done, but had been told the job had to go ahead by Rushmoor.
He said Rushmoor was being very inflexible.
"I have tried to talk them out of it" he added.
Mr. EDGOOSE also said there was no doubt his aunt's site would have to be demolished before long.
Mr. Dennis POWERS, Rushmoor's health officer said it would be wrong to discuss private matters involving individuals.
He said a notice had been served to Miss EDGOOSE by the health committee requiring repairs to be done to the property.
He said anyone who received such a notice was entitled to ask for a grant from the council."
