NOTES & QUERIES:
1) There is an anomaly here. In the 1861 census Sarah GOLDSMITH, an 88 year old widow born in Earl Soham, Suffolk, was described as the mother-in-law of Lowestoft born Mary BALLS. It is almost beyond question that her maiden name was LARHAM and not DAY. Her age fits, her place of birth fits, and the register of baptisms before and after the baptism of Mary in 1801 records her maiden name as LARHAM or LANGHAM.
(RG9/1187/151/20)
According to the IGI Mary GOLDSMITH and Henry BALLS were married at Lowestoft, Suffolk, on 23 February 1824.
2) FamilySearch lists a marriage between a Susanna GOLDSMITH and a John DAY at Lowestoft, Suffolk, on 19 and 21 October 1788.
